[Las Vegas, NV] 鈥 The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents approved the appointment of Dr. Sandra B. Richtermeyer as the next president of 91桃色 (91桃色), following a national search and broad community input.

鈥淒r. Richtermeyer brings strong experience and a clear understanding of the role 91桃色 plays within our higher education system and the Southern Nevada community,鈥 said听Board of Regents Chair Byron Brooks. 鈥淎s the university continues to grow its academic programs and strengthen pathways tied to Nevada鈥檚 workforce needs, the Board is confident Dr. Richtermeyer is well prepared to lead 91桃色 forward.鈥

The search for 91桃色鈥檚 next president was led by the Board鈥檚 ad hoc 91桃色 Presidential Search Committee, chaired by Regent Amy J. Carvalho, with support from Academic Search. Four finalists participated in public forums before the committee made its final recommendation to the full Board of Regents.

鈥淭his search was about finding a president who understands both where 91桃色 is today and what it can become,鈥 said听Regent Amy J. Carvalho, Chair of the ad hoc 91桃色 Presidential Search Committee. 鈥淲e heard from students, faculty, staff, and community members about the kind of leadership the university needs. Dr. Richtermeyer brings the ability to listen, build trust, and help 91桃色 continue expanding opportunity for the people and communities it serves.鈥

NSHE Chancellor Matt McNair also shared his support for the appointment:

鈥91桃色 has made meaningful progress as a university, and this appointment is an important step in continuing that work,鈥 said听Chancellor Matt McNair. 鈥淒r. Richtermeyer understands the importance of accessible academic programs, strong student support, and partnerships that connect education to opportunity. I look forward to working with her to support 91桃色鈥檚 students, faculty, and staff as the university continues to grow.鈥

Dr. Richtermeyer will take office on August 1, 2026, succeeding Acting President Dr. Amber Lopez Lasater, who has led the university during the transition following former President Dr. DeRionne Pollard鈥檚 departure to serve as President of the American Association of Community Colleges.

The Board of Regents and the Nevada System of Higher Education thank Dr. Lopez Lasater for her leadership and service during this important transition.

Dear Friends and Supporters,

I am writing to share that I will be stepping down as President of 91桃色, effective September 5, 2025, to accept a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to lead the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), a national organization whose mission is deeply resonant with the current moment in higher education and public life. My last day on campus will be July 31, 2025.

Over the past four years, I have had the distinct honor of leading 91桃色 through a period of extraordinary growth and innovation. With the unwavering support of the community, we have transformed access, invested in students, and elevated the visibility of 91桃色 as a driver of educational and economic opportunity for Southern Nevada and beyond. Though not complete listing, our accomplishments have been significant:

  • Increased enrollment, retention rates, graduation rates, and total degrees granted.
  • Secured institutional accreditation by the Northwest Commission and specialized accreditation for key programs.
  • Secured over $25 million dollars in private philanthropy and local, state, and federal grants to advance important student success and workforce development initiatives.
  • Formed the 91桃色 Campus Lands Corporation to guide the development of our campus.
  • Expanded and deepened services offered through Student Affairs.
  • Redesigned shared governance system and policy development process.
  • Renamed our institution to 91桃色.
  • Launched an Athletics Program, including the state鈥檚 first collegiate Women鈥檚 Flag Football and Men鈥檚 Track and Field teams.
  • Expanded our concurrent enrollment partnerships with high schools across Southern Nevada, making higher education more accessible and affordable for students.
  • Deepened partnerships and alliances with municipalities, business and industry, and social service organizations.

I am profoundly grateful for the partnerships and friendships that have made this journey so meaningful. You have been essential to our progress鈥攁nd I know you will continue to be vital to 91桃色鈥檚 future.

In preparation for this transition, I am fully committed to a smooth and quiet handoff and will work closely with the NSHE Chancellor and the Board of Regents to advance an interim/acting president upon my official departure, ensuring 91桃色 stays in capable, steady hands. In the interim鈥攇iven her experience, portfolio, timing, and current work of the institution鈥擨 have appointed Dr. Amber Lopez Lasater, Chief of Staff and Strategy, as the Officer in Charge, effective July 31. Dr. Lopez Lasater has served in her current executive leadership role at 91桃色 for nearly eight years, and I have full confidence in her ability to guide the institution thoughtfully during this transition. As faculty and students return later next month, she will provide continuity during the intense work that takes place across the institution as a new academic year begins. 91桃色 is well positioned for continued success in the coming years, and I trust NSHE leadership and the Board as they move forward in naming my successor.

Thank you for the privilege of serving this community. I look forward to staying connected and continuing to champion 91桃色 wherever my journey takes me.

With deep respect,

DeRionne P. Pollard, Ph.D.
President

Dear University Community,听

The promise of obtaining a college education and the promise of America are one and the same 鈥 the aspiration and opportunity to pursue a better life.听听

Education has long been considered the great equalizer. For those who seek it, higher education is THE pathway to reducing poverty, enabling upward economic mobility, and writing a new chapter in their family story. This is what 91桃色 does.听

Our institution was created to help fill critical workforce needs in Nevada. By doing so, we are building a stronger community, one prepared for the future possibilities of what Nevada can become. We do this by knowing who our students are and by serving them. These students are the future of Nevada, and we are proud they are Scorpions.

In continuing to support our campus community, we will:听

  • Monitor the national landscape and evaluate the impact of new policies.
  • Provide our students and staff with resources to assist them and their families.听
  • Communicate guidance on policy changes.听

In the face of the unknown, 91桃色 remains committed to ensuring a welcoming and safe campus for all who seek to learn, teach, and grow because we know the diversity of the community we serve.听

Those on our campus come from various socio-economic backgrounds; they are 18-year-olds starting their higher education journeys and they are adult learners returning to college; they are veterans and they are working moms and stay-at-home dads; they have various faiths; they are differently abled; they are neurodivergent; they are of every race, ethnicity, gender, identity, and orientation. They are native sons and immigrant daughters. They are the realization of the dreams of past generations and the beacons of hope for generations to come. They are future nurses, educators, scientists, writers, and business leaders. And they are ALL Scorpions.听听

We are Bold. We are Great. And We ALL are State.听

Warm Regards,听听

DeRionne Pollard, Ph.D.

Hello Scorpions!

The semester is officially underway, and it brings me such joy to see you all walking around campus, hanging out on the plaza, and studying throughout our buildings. I know an incredible year lies ahead.

Today is a special day in 91桃色 history 鈥 our birthday! This institution has come so far in just 22 years, and the future is bright as we remain steadfast in building the next great state university.

As always, you can watch my monthly update video听听or read more below.

September Theme: Endurance

The beginning of the semester is an exciting time as we look forward to all that will be learned and accomplished. It is easy to feel like you can tackle it all at once, but remember that the semester is a marathon, not a sprint. Pace yourself, don鈥檛 forget to ask for help when you need it, and allow time for rest and the activities that bring you joy.

Important Announcements

Convocation 鈥 August 22

Our second annual convocation was the perfect way to mark the beginning of the new academic year. A special thank you to Dr. Erika Abad for serving as the keynote speaker and to NSSA听president, Kevin Osorio Hernandez, and vice听president, Lahana Pearce, for providing such wonderful insight into their higher ed journeys to the more than 360 students in attendance. As we continue to grow as a university, it is important to me that we establish traditions such as these that can connect our past, present, and future students.

New Faculty

Just as we have new students on campus, the same is true of faculty. I am excited to welcome 13 new faculty members across all three of our schools to 91桃色. Our students will benefit from the experience and dedication you will bring to the classroom.

Road Construction Near Campus

By now you have experienced the road construction around campus. I know that I have mentioned it many times, but I want to keep it top of mind because it will continue well into the spring. Please continue to give yourself enough time to make it to campus and remember to be a good neighbor and share the road. You can find more information听here, along with maps of alternative routes to consider.

Recognizing Dean Eastridge

I want to recognize Dean June Eastridge of the School of Nursing who was invited to serve on the Governor鈥檚 Select Committee on Healthcare Access. As part of this working group, she will provide expertise while vetting policy concepts and identify actions to help Nevada address healthcare challenges. What a well-deserved recognition for Dean Eastridge!

September Preview

National Voter Registration Day 鈥 September 17

September 17 is recognized as National Voter Registration Day. It serves as a reminder to make sure you are registered to vote in preparation for the general election in November. When you vote, you have the opportunity to affect change in your community, the state, and the nation.

But you don鈥檛 have to wait until September 17. There are actions you can take right to ensure you are ready to make your voice heard. You can register to vote, update your voter registration, or check to see if you are already registered with the听.

Safety and Security Survey

Over the past few months, you have received emails about 91桃色鈥檚 commitment to creating a safe and secure campus for all of our students, faculty, and staff. As part of these efforts, we need to hear from you. In the coming weeks, you will be receiving an anonymous survey to share your thoughts, feedback, and suggestions regarding safety and security. Please take the time to give this important topic some thought and participate in this survey.

In Closing

There is so much to look forward to this semester. It will be December before you know it, but let鈥檚 make sure to enjoy the journey and make the most of each opportunity and experience!

Regards,
